Thursday afternoon, Maria came over to use my telephone. She said
Anthony had broken theirs and had been hurting her by squeezing her arms.
She called the Sheriff's Office and asked them for a ride to her
mother's place. While she was on the phone, Anthony came over and talked
to her through the door. She left, they both got into Anthony's car, and
he drove off. A few minutes after they left, a person telephoned, said
he was with the Sheriff's Office, and asked to talk with Maria Vigil. I
told him she had driven off with Anthony Rodriguez. About four hours
later, a Sheriff's Deputy knocked at my door and asked to speak with
Maria Vigil. I told him she had not returned yet. (Fast, aren't they?)
At 4:58 a.m. this morning, I heard dogs barking and looked out to see
Anthony carrying someone (I think it was Maria) up his steps and inside
his mobile home, headed back toward the hallway. That's very strange!
Why was he carrying her? Why were they up so early? They usually do not
get up before 9 a.m., often not until after noon.
At 6:26 a.m., Maria came over to use my telephone. At 6:40, a State
Police officer arrived. Maria told him that Anthony had been hurting her
and she wanted to leave and go to her mother's place. The police officer
asked her if she wanted to file charges against Anthony. She said, "I
don't think so. There's a warrant out for his arrest." That really got
the officer's interest. He and Maria got into the police car and he
drove off.
At 7:10, Maria telephoned to thank me for my help and said she was at her
mother's place. She said Anthony was really mad at me and she apologized
for Anthony's behavior, saying he gets mad at everybody and doesn't know
how to forgive. She told me her mother's telephone number and told me to
call her every so often because she still wanted to be friends.
Anthony has been mad at me ever since he said that he hates whites
because they're all crazy. That was three weeks ago and we have not
spoken to each other since. It's a lot more peaceful here that way.
Oops! Anthony came over at 9:17 and asked me if Maria came over this
morning. After I told him she had, he asked if she had already left. I
told him she had and he went back home.
I haven't made much progress on my garden. By the time I got Don
Gettemy's trailer wired up to work with my foreign car, it rained, so I
could not get manure then. After that, I got busy with other things that
had to be done immediately (like income tax and other silly jobs). Last
week, the horse farm manager informed me that they had previously
promised all their manure to other people and I should call them tomorrow
to see if I can get some this week.
Meanwhile, I have been gradually spading the garden area to loosen the
soil in preparation to spading in the manure. The areas where I had
previously spaded in manure or kitchen vegetable waste were soft and
moist. Where I had not, it was dry, hard, and difficult to dig.
